Our Mission
The St Helena Choral Society teaches, performs, and celebrates music for all ages through our choir programs, concerts, competitions, and special events like the annual "A Cappella Workshop." The Society was formed as a nonprofit in 2007 to generate artistic education and musical joy for people of all ages in the St Helena, Napa Valley community.
Our History
With a performance history going all the way back to 1979, the St Helena Choral Society organized as a nonprofit in 2007, in sync with historic community fundraising efforts to bring a performing arts classroom and theater to St Helena.
Over all this time (more than four decades!), both the board and our choral programs have been energetically led by a local hero—our beloved musical director, Craig Bond. At the same time Craig was building award-winning, world-traveling choirs in the St Helena Unified School District, Craig started a Community Chorus, ambitiously performing Handel's Messiah!
This group grew into today's 70-voice Chamber Singers, and our annual Messiah performances (in whole or in part), complete with a chamber orchestra and professional soloists, are a treasured tradition...and hottest ticket every December!
Our Artistic Director~Craig Bond
Napa Valley's St Helena Choral Society is led by choral director Craig Bond - a local legend and career choral music director who has lived and taught and raised an amazing musical family in St. Helena since 1973!
Since his official school district retirement in 2012, “Mr. Bond” never stopped teaching and inspiring. Instead he redoubled his efforts to bring choral music to an ever-wider array of singers and audiences under the auspices of our NPO Choral Society.
Craig directs our board, the St Helena Chamber Singers, the Jazz@7 Vocal Ensemble, and co-directs with his daughter, Melissa Bond, both youth choirs - the St Helena Children's Chorus and St Helena Teen Choir
